Welcome to Siguru
A Fun, Pedagogical, Information Security Card Game
Game Overview
Teams: The game is played in teams of two, with each team competing against another team of two.
Levels: The game has three levels of difficulty:
- Level 1: Basic attacks everyone should know about.
- Level 2: More sophisticated attacks.
- Level 3: Very sophisticated attacks.
How to Play
Setup
Each team starts with seven Term Cards and three Action Cards.
- Term Cards: These cards have terms related to information security attacks.
- Action Cards: These cards can be used to perform special actions and can be played before a round, during a round, or as defense. Each card can only be used once unless it says otherwise.
Gameplay
Structure
- Match: The entire match typically consists of two games.
- Game: Each game consists of three rounds.
- Round: A round is 60 seconds of guessing terms. The person reading the cards switches between every round.
Rounds
Each game has three rounds, and each round has a specific way of explaining terms:
- Round 1: Explain with Different Words - One player tries to explain the term on the Term Card using different words without saying the term itself.
- Round 2: Explain Using Attack Methods - One player explains the term by describing how the attack works, again without saying the term.
- Round 3: Explain Using Defense Strategies - One player describes how to defend against the attack without naming the term.
Scoring
Points: Each correctly guessed Term Card earns the team one point.
Winning: The team with the highest total points at the end of the match wins.
Physical Cards
Action Cards
Action Cards have three main areas to note:
- Top Right: Shows when the card can be played (Before, During, Defense).
- Bottom Right: Displays the card's number.
- Bottom Left: Features the Siguru logo.
Term Cards
Term Cards also have three key areas:
- Top Right: Indicates the difficulty level (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3).
- Bottom Right: Shows the card's number.
- Bottom Left: Displays the Siguru logo.
- Center: Contains a QR code that links to a webpage with more information about the term.
Progression
To get started, everyone should begin with Level 1 cards, which cover basic terms. Once you're comfortable with these, you can move on to more challenging levels.
How to Progress
- Add Gradually: Introduce a few higher-level cards each time you play. Playing with all new terms at once can be overwhelming and slow the game down.
- Mixed Levels: It's okay for different teams to play at different levels. One team might use only Level 1 cards, while another team uses cards from all levels. This way, players of different skill levels can still enjoy the game together.
Making the Game More Challenging
- Action Cards Face Down: After viewing an Action Card, place it face down and only activate it by flipping it over. This adds intensity and requires more focus.
- Adjust the Number of Action Cards: You can use more or fewer Action Cards depending on how challenging you want the game to be. To focus on learning terms, you might skip Action Cards entirely. To make the game more intense, try using two Action Cards per round.
Feel free to experiment with these variations to find what works best for your group. The main goal is to learn and have fun, so progress at a pace that keeps the game enjoyable and engaging.
